Australia has announced a temporary six-month travel restriction affecting Iranian passport holders with Visitor (Subclass 600) visas, effective 26 March 2026.
Who is affected?
- Iranian nationals holding Subclass 600 visas
- Individuals currently outside Australia
- Estimated impact: 6,800–7,200 visa holders

- The restriction will remain in place for six months

Why this decision?
The Australian government has introduced this measure to:
- Maintain migration system integrity
- Prevent situations where visa holders may become unable to return home due to regional instability
- Manage risks linked to the ongoing Middle East tensions and conflict in Iran

- Implemented under Section 84B of the Migration Act
- Known as an “arrival control determination”, which prevents affected individuals from boarding flights to Australia
