In a significant move to strengthen family reunification, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has announced key updates to the Super Visa program, effective March 31, 2026.
These changes are designed to make the program more accessible and accommodating for families, especially those who may have faced temporary financial fluctuations.
Key Updates:
1. Flexible Income Assessment
Sponsors can now provide income proof from either of the last two tax years, instead of being limited to only the most recent year.
2. Combined Income Option
Applicants can now combine their income with that of the visiting parent or grandparent to meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) requirement—making eligibility easier for many families.
3. Wider Application Scope
These updated rules will apply to:
All new applications submitted on or after March 31, 2026
Applications already in process as of this date
4. Stay Duration Remains Unchanged
Super Visa holders will continue to enjoy up to 5 years of stay per entry, maintaining the program’s long-term visit benefits.
