Proposed New Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, candidates may need:

• Minimum education: High school equivalent
• Language proficiency: CLB 6
• At least 1 year of skilled work experience (TEER 0–3)

CRS System Could Shift Toward High-Income Jobs

One of the biggest changes being discussed is how CRS points are awarded.

The focus may shift to:

• High-paying occupations
• Strong Canadian work experience

Potential Wage-Based CRS Boosts

Additional points may be given for jobs paying:

• 2× median wage → Doctors, professors
• 5× median wage → Engineers, teachers
• 3× median wage → Analysts, skilled trades

Important Changes Under Review

• Limiting trade occupations to Red Seal certified roles
• Removing CRS points for:

• Spouse factors
• Canadian study
• Siblings in Canada
  • No additional CRS points for French (may rely on category-based draws instead)
  • Education points only for Canadian postgraduate studies

Stricter Rules for Canadian Work Experience

Eligible work must be:

• Paid (wages/commission)
• Gained legally in Canada
• Under valid temporary status

Work that may NOT count includes:

• Self-employment (with limited exceptions)
• Work during full-time study
• Unauthorized work
• Work for foreign companies or diplomatic missions
