Following the 4 June 2026 Skill Select invitation round, where 10,000 invitations were issued across a broad range of skilled occupations, attention is now turning to the next expected invitation round by 30 September 2026.
The June round highlighted some important trends:
Trade occupations such as plumbers, electricians and carpenters received invitations from 65 points.
Many healthcare and education professionals, including registered nurses, allied health professionals and teachers, were invited at 75 points.
Several engineering, science and specialist occupations required 80–100 points, reflecting increased competition.
If you’re planning to apply for the Skilled Independent (Subclass 189) visa, now is the ideal time to:
- Review and update your Expression of Interest (EOI).
• Ensure all claimed points are accurate and supported by evidence.
• Explore opportunities to improve your points before the next invitation round.
While the next round is expected by 30 September 2026, invitation numbers, occupations and minimum points required will continue to depend on Australia’s migration planning levels and SkillSelect demand.
If you’re considering Australian permanent residency, this is the right time to prepare rather than wait for the next invitation round.
