The UK has introduced eVisas, replacing physical visa stickers, and Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for visa-exempt travellers, effective February 25, 2026. Here’s what you need to know:
– eVisas: If you applied for a UK visit visa on or after February 25, 2026, you’ll receive a digital eVisa linked to your passport, accessible through your UKVI online account .
– ETA: Travellers from 85 countries, including the US, Canada, EU, and Australia, must obtain an ETA before travelling to the UK. The ETA costs £16, is valid for two years or until passport expiry, and allows multiple trips .
– Key changes:
– No physical visa stickers will be issued.
– Airlines will check digital authorisation at boarding.
– British dual nationals must travel on a British or Irish passport
To prepare, create a UKVI account, ensure your passport details are accurate, and apply for an ETA if required
