Western Australia has commenced its 2026–27 skilled migration invitation rounds, with the first round reportedly held in September.
What we are seeing so far
Community reports indicate that invitations have started going out for Subclass 190 and Subclass 491, with selected skilled occupations receiving invitations.
Among the occupations reported so far:
🔹 Civil Engineer (ANZSCO 233211) – invitations reported at around 85 points
🔹 Bricklayer (ANZSCO 331111) – invitations reported at around 75 points
The selection is particularly relevant because it shows that WA is continuing to look at both professional occupations and skilled trades, rather than limiting opportunities to one particular sector.
Why these occupations matter
Civil Engineering remains closely connected with Western Australia’s infrastructure and construction requirements. Civil engineers can be involved in areas such as infrastructure development, transport projects, construction planning, structural works and major development projects.
Bricklaying, meanwhile, falls within the building and construction workforce that WA has been actively seeking to strengthen. Skilled trades such as bricklayers can play an important role in residential, commercial and infrastructure-related construction.
WA’s State Nominated Migration Program is designed to target occupations where skilled workers are required to support the state’s workforce needs. Building and construction, healthcare and social assistance, hospitality and tourism, and education and training have been identified as priority industry sectors under the state’s nomination framework.

An occupation being eligible for WA nomination does not automatically mean an invitation will be issued.
WA considers factors such as:

✔️ Points score
✔️ Work experience
✔️ State nomination criteria
✔️ Residence status
✔️ Current workforce priorities
✔️ Availability of nomination places
For some occupations, the points required can also vary considerably from one invitation round to another.
Important: The September 2026 figures currently being reported are indicative community-reported outcomes. Migration WA has not yet released the official occupation-by-occupation invitation table for this round.
