Germany has introduced a new Digital Master Test (dMAT) as an additional requirement for selected Indian students applying for Master’s programmes. The test will form part of the APS (Academic Evaluation Centre) verification process and is applicable for students seeking admission from the Summer Semester 2027 onwards.
The new requirement applies primarily to applicants with undergraduate degrees in:
- Engineering
- Commerce, Accounting, Finance and Economics
- Business and Management
Key Highlights
- Registration for the first dMAT commenced on 29 June 2026.
- The first test is scheduled for 26 September 2026.
- The dMAT certificate will become part of the applicant’s APS documentation and will accompany the APS certificate during the university application process.
What This Means for Students
Students planning to pursue a Master’s degree in Germany should verify whether their field of study falls under the new dMAT requirement and factor the additional test into their application timeline. Although the dMAT is now an important component of the APS process for selected applicants, it does not replace APS document verification; it is an additional assessment of academic aptitude.
Hodophiles Advice: If you are targeting the Summer 2027 intake or later, begin your APS preparation early and ensure you understand whether the dMAT applies to your academic background before submitting your applications.
