Victoria Opens 2026–27 Skilled Migration Program: 900 Places Under Subclass 190
Victoria has opened its 2026–27 Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) program. If you are a skilled professional hoping for Australian permanent residency, here is what you need to know.
Key updates
- 900 places: The Australian Government has allocated Victoria 900 subclass 190 nomination places for 2026–27. This is well below last year’s 2,700.
- ROIs are open: Eligible applicants can now submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) through the Live in Melbourne portal.
- Onshore and offshore applicants: Skilled professionals living in Victoria or overseas may be considered, subject to eligibility and selection criteria.
How Victoria selects applicants
ROIs are scored and ranked under the Victorian Points Test, which considers factors such as age, English, experience, qualifications, occupation skill level, partner skills and, for onshore applicants, Victorian earnings. There is no fixed pass mark. Victoria prioritises certain industries and occupations & the highest-ranked ROIs within each priority group are invited to apply. Invitation rounds have no set dates.
How to apply
- Check your eligibility and occupation against Victoria’s current criteria.
- Submit or update your Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect.
- Submit an ROI on the Live in Melbourne portal.
- If invited, lodge your state nomination application.
- After nomination is approved, apply for the subclass 190 visa.
Fees for 2026–27
- ROI: AUD 60 excluding GST (AUD 66 including GST for applicants in Australia)
- Nomination application: AUD 180 excluding GST, payable only if invited (confirm on the official fees page before publishing)
What about subclass 491?
Victoria has not yet finalised its 2026–27 subclass 491 allocation & ROIs for that visa are not currently being accepted. Subclass 190 and 491 applicants are ranked and invited separately.
Important to know
- 900 places are Victoria’s allocation, not a guarantee of an invitation or visa.
- ROIs from previous years do not carry over. You must submit a new ROI for 2026–27.
- Every claim in your ROI must be backed by evidence if you are invited.
What should you do now?
Review your occupation, skills assessment, English score, points, work history and eligibility against Victoria’s current criteria before submitting an ROI. With fewer places this year, a well-prepared profile matters more than ever.
