March 8, 2025 – Canada has announced new admissions targets under its recently launched Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot (HCWP), aiming to grant permanent residency to 2,750 home care workers in 2025. The announcement was made by Immigration Minister Marc Miller during a press conference on March 8, 2025.
Under this new initiative, Canada seeks to address the growing demand for home care services while providing a clear path to permanent residency for qualified workers. Of the total 2,750 admissions, 150 spots will be specifically reserved for home care workers currently out of status in Canada. This measure reflects the government’s commitment to regularizing undocumented workers and ensuring they have an opportunity to contribute to the country’s healthcare system.
The Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot (HCWP) is designed to simplify the immigration process for caregivers, making it easier for them to secure permanent residency while continuing to provide essential care services to Canadians. Minister Miller emphasized that the program will not only help fill critical gaps in the healthcare workforce but also provide stability and security for caregivers and their families.
“Caregivers play a vital role in supporting our healthcare system and helping Canadian families,” said Miller. “This new pilot program reflects our commitment to recognizing their contributions and ensuring they have the opportunity to build a future in Canada.”
The HCWP will prioritize applicants with relevant work experience and qualifications in home care, including personal care, nursing support, and specialized assistance for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Applications for the new Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot will open later this year, with further details on eligibility criteria and the application process expected to be released in the coming weeks.
This initiative underscores Canada’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its healthcare workforce while supporting the immigration and integration of skilled workers into Canadian society.
