The UK is switching to digital immigration documentation, phasing out physical visa vignettes in passports for certain visa categories starting July 15, 2025. Here’s what you need to know:
Who’s Affected?
– Main applicants in the following categories:
– Global Business Mobility
– International Sportsperson
– Skilled Worker (including Health & Care)
– Temporary Worker (excluding Seasonal Worker)
Key Changes:
– No more physical visa stickers in passports; instead, you’ll get an eVisa accessible through your UKVI account
– You’ll need to:
– Set up a UKVI account
– Link your current passport
– Verify eVisa details and report any errors
– Use an eVisa share code to confirm your immigration status
Dependants and Employers:
– Dependents will initially receive both a vignette and an eVisa, but vignettes will be phased out in the future
– Main visa holders will provide a share code for Right to Work checks, while dependant checks can still be done on a vignette until it expires
Why the Change?
The UK government aims to enhance security, efficiency, and convenience with this digital shift. The eVisa system promises faster service and better security, but may also pose challenges for those struggling with digital tools or lacking internet access.
