UPEI Proposes Tuition Hikes Amid Enrollment Drop
The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is proposing tuition increases of 6.5% for domestic students and 7.5% for international students due to a significant drop in international enrollment. The university is facing a $6 million shortfall after a 50% decline in first-year international students, largely attributed to federal policy changes. Despite the drop, international students still account for over half of UPEI’s tuition revenue. The university may introduce new bursaries and consider program cuts and staff restructuring to mitigate the impact.
